Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care

This is a 1 year entry level qualification into the Emergency Medical Care profession. The qualification has 120 credits and registered at NQF Level 5. Students who successfully complete all modules within this qualification shall be registered with the HPCSA as Emergency Care Assistant (ECA)



Tuition fee: R96 750 (excludes textbooks, operational uniform and student residence)

Diploma in Emergency Medical Care (Paramedic)

This is a 3 year qualification within the Emergency Medical Care profession. The qualification has 360 credits and registered at NQF Level 6. Students who successfully complete all modules within this qualification shall be registered with the HPCSA as Advanced Life Support Paramedics (ANT)

Emergency Medical Preparatory Programme (Bridging/Access course)

This EMPP programme is not a qualification but rather a Bridging/Access programme to assist those who do not meet the Matric subjects’ requirements with access into the Emergency Medical Care mainstream qualifications. The programme is offered over 1 academic year with subjects facilitated at NQF level 4. Students who successfully complete all modules within this programme shall be offered guaranteed space to study either the Higher Certificate or Diploma on Emergency Medical Care at Maritzburg Emergency College.

Textbooks

Students may borrow textbooks from the college library in-line with the standard policy however those who wish to purchase their personal textbooks, may do so. Recommended textbook suppliers’ contact details and pricing shall be available on request.

Uniforms

Maritzburg Emergency College students are expected to wear uniforms while attending lectures and during clinical practice. Uniform prices shall be confirmed prior to commencement of training at the beginning of the year as soon as suppliers confirm 2027 pricing.

Student Residence

Our on-campus student accommodation consists of standard student rooms generally shared between two students. Student residence on campus is optional and charged on a month-to-month basis.
